1. What a High-Speed Disperser Is
A disperser is a kind of high-speed mixer. Its high-speed sawtooth disc creates strong local turbulence, giving powerful dispersion and emulsification on the material. Dispersers are mainly lift-type (hydraulic, pneumatic or hand lifting) or tank-mounted.
A disperser consists of a power drive (motor, drive chain, dispersing shaft), a hydraulic lifting unit (oil circuit, directional valve, piping, piston) and a control system. The high-speed toothed disc applies strong shear, impact, crushing and dispersion to liquid raw materials of different viscosities, achieving fast mixing, dissolving, dispersing and refining. It is widely used in coatings, inks, pigments, adhesives and similar chemical products.

2. System Requirements
On this disperser the drive had to:
- Start and stop via terminal (DI) control.
- Drive an external tachometer: 0–10 V from AO1–GND, showing 0–1500 r/min.
- Run stably with no unexpected stop or jam: once the machine stops, the material stabilizes and may even solidify in the vessel.
- Deliver high torque at low speed at the very start, because the main shaft starts against settled, viscous material and the instant current is high.

3. Solution and Settings
Item | Setting |
Main-shaft motor | 7.5 kW / 380 V, rated current 17 A |
Acceleration time | 10 s |
Deceleration time | 10 s |
Control mode | V/F control, terminal start/stop |
Output frequency range | 0–50 Hz adjustable |
Full-load peak starting current | 20 A |
Steady running current | about 13 A |
The XFC550 vector-control VFD (380 V, 1.5–450 kW) covers this machine in the 5.5–45 kW range (see the full low-voltage VFD range). After commissioning, startup shock is small, running is steady, and the VFD has run normally, fully meeting the machine’s requirements for crushing and dispersing material to the required mixing, dissolving and dispersion quality.
